Who is Trooli Broadband?
Trooli is a Kent-based “alternative network” provider, or AltNet. That means it doesn’t rent space on Openreach’s network like BT, Sky, or Plusnet do. Instead, Trooli builds and maintains its own fibre-optic infrastructure from scratch.
The company was founded by former BT staff and has attracted serious investment to fund its network expansion, including a €30 million grant from the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund and £67.5 million in additional debt financing (ISPreview, 2022). Not a fly-by-night operation, in other words.
As of December 2025, Trooli’s network covers approximately 460,000 premises across England and parts of Scotland (ISPreview, December 2025). That makes it a niche provider, not a national one. It won’t be competing with BT or Sky for reach anytime soon. But if your postcode is covered, what you get is a genuinely different kind of broadband connection.

What Makes Full-Fibre Different?
Trooli uses FTTP (fibre to the premises), where fibre-optic cables run all the way to your property. No copper involved at all. The result is faster, more consistent speeds, and upload speeds that actually match your download speeds. That symmetrical upload is a genuine advantage most mainstream providers can’t match (and one that really matters if anyone in your household spends their day on video calls).

Where is Trooli Available?
This is the single most important question. Trooli is not a national provider, and even within the counties it serves, coverage depends on whether it’s actually laid fibre in your specific street.
As of December 2025, Trooli’s network covers areas within: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Dorset, East Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, West Sussex, Wiltshire, and some areas of Scotland.
Before reading any further, check what’s available at your postcode. You can also use Trooli’s own website checker. Some addresses show as “taking orders,” meaning the network is planned but not yet live. You can register interest, but you won’t be able to connect immediately.
What If Trooli Isn’t Available at My Address?
If Trooli doesn’t cover your postcode, you’re not out of options. Several other AltNet providers serve rural and semi-rural parts of the UK with similar full-fibre technology. Trooli Broadband Plans and Prices
Trooli keeps things simple. Four speed tiers, all full-fibre FTTP, all with symmetrical upload speeds. No bundled phone line, no TV packages. Just broadband. Here’s what’s currently on offer (as of April 2026):

All plans include a Wi-Fi 6 router at no extra cost. The symmetrical upload speeds are the standout feature here. For instance, if your household has multiple people on video calls, uploading files, or gaming, that matching upload speed makes a real difference compared to providers where upload speed is a fraction of the download speed.
Trooli’s 2 Gbps Pro plan is one of the fastest consumer broadband products available in the UK, described as “up to 28 times faster than the UK average” (Choose.co.uk, 2024). That said, most households won’t need anywhere near 2 Gbps. The 500 Mbps Extra plan is more than enough for a busy family home.
Are There Any Setup Fees or Hidden Costs?
This is where Trooli differs from the mainstream broadband providers. Because it runs its own physical network, an engineer is needed to visit your property to install the fibre connection. The standard installation fee is £120, plus around £6 per extra metre of cabling beyond the standard. Installation typically takes about an hour for a standard property.
Your monthly price is locked in, though. Trooli guarantees no mid-contract price increases for the full 24 months. Does Trooli Offer Any Promotions or Discounts?

Unlike some larger providers, Trooli doesn’t use aggressive introductory discounts that jump to a higher price after a few months. The price you see is the price for the full contract.
One gap worth flagging: Trooli doesn’t currently offer a social tariff for households on means-tested benefits like Universal Credit or Pension Credit. What’s the Installation Process Like?
Switching to Trooli isn’t the same as switching between two Openreach-based providers, where a new router just arrives in the post. Because Trooli owns its own infrastructure, a full engineer installation is required.
An engineer will visit your property to route and connect the fibre cable. For a standard property, this takes roughly an hour. More complex installations (long driveways, older buildings, thick walls) may take longer and incur the additional cabling charge of around £6 per metre.
Lead times from order to live connection can vary depending on local engineering capacity, so it’s worth asking Trooli directly about timescales in your area. Once the fibre is connected and the Wi-Fi 6 router configured, you’re online. No need to keep a traditional phone line.
Trooli Customer Service and Reliability
Because Trooli owns the network end-to-end, it doesn’t need to raise a ticket with Openreach when something goes wrong. Its engineers are locally based and serve specific geographic areas, which typically means faster fault resolution compared to national providers that rely on third-party infrastructure.

Trooli is broadband-only. It doesn’t offer TV bundles or mobile plans. If you want everything under one roof, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

How Does Trooli Compare to Other Providers?

Trooli vs BT Full Fibre
BT offers full-fibre FTTP broadband via Openreach in many areas, including parts of the South East that overlap with Trooli. Its FTTP plans are broadly comparable in price to Trooli’s mid-tier options, and BT brings greater brand familiarity and an established support network.
The catch? BT typically bundles landline rental into its packages, adding cost if you don’t actually want a phone line. Trooli’s broadband-only pricing can work out cheaper for mobile-only households. BT also relies on Openreach for fault resolution, whereas Trooli handles everything in-house. The key trade-off is availability versus features: BT is far more widely available, but Trooli offers symmetrical uploads and a price-lock guarantee.
Trooli vs Virgin Media
Virgin Media uses a hybrid fibre-coaxial cable network, which is different technology to Trooli’s FTTP. Virgin can deliver fast downloads, but upload speeds are significantly lower than download speeds (we’re talking 36 Mbps upload on a 1 Gbps download plan, for example). That’s the opposite of Trooli’s symmetrical model.
In practice, there’s very little geographic overlap. Virgin Media focuses on urban and suburban areas, while Trooli serves rural and semi-rural postcodes. For most Trooli customers, Virgin Media simply isn’t an option. You can compare both at your postcode to see what’s available.
Trooli vs Other AltNets
