TalkTalk runs predominantly on BT’s Openreach network, which gives it broad UK coverage. It also partners with CityFibre for full-fibre connections in certain areas. Between the two networks, TalkTalk can technically reach more homes with full fibre than most providers outside of BT itself.
Over 85% of UK broadband customers use one of four major providers, BT/EE, Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk. It might not have Sky’s marketing budget or BT’s brand clout, but it’s firmly mainstream. TalkTalk Broadband Packages & Speeds
TalkTalk offers speed tiers ranging from entry-level part-fibre at 37 Mbps right up to 940 Mbps full fibre. All packages include unlimited data as standard. The type of broadband you can get depends on the infrastructure at your address, so run a check on your current broadband speed to see where you stand before comparing packages.
Part-Fibre Broadband (FTTC)
FTTC stands for fibre-to-the-cabinet. In plain English, the connection runs over fibre-optic cables from the exchange to the green street cabinet near your home, then uses older copper wiring for the last stretch. It’s the most common type of fibre broadband in the UK. When most people say they’ve got “fibre”, this is what they mean.
TalkTalk’s FTTC options include:
- Fibre 35: Average speeds of 37 Mbps, at £26/month (rising to £30 after year one)
- Fibre 65: Average speeds of 67 Mbps, also £26/month (rising to £30)
Both plans require an active phone line (line rental is included in the monthly price). For a household of two to four people doing everyday streaming and browsing, Fibre 65 is the sweet spot. One thing to keep in mind, FTTC speeds can dip depending on how far your home sits from the street cabinet. Full Fibre Broadband (FTTP)
Full fibre, or FTTP (fibre-to-the-premises), means fibre-optic cable runs all the way to your property. No copper involved. The result is faster, more consistent speeds, and you don’t need a phone line.

- Full Fibre 65: ~77 Mbps, £26/month
- Full Fibre 150: ~152 Mbps, £24/month

Availability is more limited than FTTC, and it varies street by street depending on whether Openreach or CityFibre infrastructure has been built out to your address. A postcode check is essential. The Full Fibre 900 package suits households with heavy simultaneous usage, think multiple 4K streams, online gaming, and video calls for work all happening at once.

CityFibre versions of Full Fibre 150, 500, and 900 are also available in selected areas at the same prices, with speeds of 150, 515, and 940 Mbps respectively. All plans include free setup and a Wi-Fi Hub 3 router.
Contract Lengths & What Happens at Renewal
TalkTalk’s standard contract length is 24 months. If you’d prefer something shorter, take a look at 12-month broadband deals from other providers.
The introductory price applies for the first 12 months, then increases. Full Fibre 150, for example, goes from £24 to £28/month in year two. Some TalkTalk deals have previously included a price-freeze guarantee with no rises until 2027, though you’d need to verify whether that applies to current offers.

TalkTalk regularly offers gift cards for new sign-ups. As of April 2026, several packages include gift cards ranging from £50 to £75. TalkTalk Social Tariff

TalkTalk’s FTTC network covers 98% of UK premises via Openreach, making it one of the most widely available providers in the country. With TalkTalk using both Openreach and CityFibre for FTTP, they can reach 20+ million premises across the UK.
The only reliable way to know what’s available at your address is to check what’s available at your postcode. Don’t assume your neighbour’s connection will match yours.
TalkTalk Customer Service: The Honest Picture
This is where things get complicated. TalkTalk’s customer service reputation is genuinely mixed, and you should know that before you sign up.
In a July 2024 MoneySavingExpert user poll, 36% of TalkTalk customers rated their service experience as “great”, while 34% rated it “poor”. That’s an unusually wide split, suggesting your experience could go either way. On the other hand, BroadbandDeals reports an average satisfaction score of 8.3 out of 10 from 75 verified reviews, which paints a more positive picture. Contradictory? A bit. It probably reflects the fact that when TalkTalk works smoothly, people are happy, but when something goes wrong, the support experience can be frustrating.
Our recommendation? Check Ofcom’s latest complaints data for an up-to-date benchmark. TalkTalk is part of Ofcom’s Automatic Compensation Scheme, so if your installation is delayed or an engineer misses an appointment, you’re entitled to compensation without having to chase it.

Switching to TalkTalk
Switching is easier than it used to be. Under Ofcom’s One Touch Switch process (introduced in 2023), you don’t need to contact your current provider at all. Just sign up with TalkTalk, and they handle the migration with your existing ISP.
The process typically takes around 10 working days, though it can take longer if an engineer visit is needed for a new line installation. If there’s no active phone line at your property, expect an installation fee of around £60 (verify against TalkTalk’s current terms). For like-for-like switches on the same network type, there’s generally no gap in service.

Is TalkTalk Broadband Worth It?
For price-conscious households, TalkTalk is a steady contender, though it no longer holds a monopoly on the lowest price. While it offers Full Fibre 900 at £36/month, it is currently being undercut by both Sky (£25–£31/month) and BT (£34.99/month) on comparable high-speed tiers. However, TalkTalk remains a solid value choice for those who want a simple, no-frills connection with unlimited data and inclusive security features like HomeSafe.
It suits, budget-conscious households, renters seeking a straightforward setup, and anyone who doesn’t want a TV bundle. It’s also worth comparing against Plusnet, which targets a similar value-focused audience. Where TalkTalk is weaker is customer service (given those mixed ratings) and TV bundles. If either of those is a priority, Sky broadband and Virgin Media are stronger options.
The best way to decide? Don’t look at TalkTalk in isolation. Compare broadband deals across all providers at your postcode and weigh up the full picture: price, speed, contract terms, and the extras that actually matter to your household.
