Fibrus is a full-fibre broadband provider focused on bringing faster internet to Northern Ireland and parts of northern England. If you’ve spotted the name and wondered whether it’s worth a look, you’re in the right place.
Coverage is the first thing to check, though. Fibrus isn’t available UK-wide, so before anything else, check if Fibrus is available at your postcode to see what’s on offer where you live.
Who are Fibrus?
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Northern Ireland, Fibrus was built with a clear goal: bring proper full-fibre broadband to communities that had been left behind by the bigger providers. It’s a fibre to the premises (FTTP) provider, which means fibre-optic cabling runs all the way from the exchange to your home. No copper wires involved at all.
Why does that matter? Copper wiring (used in older FTTC connections) slows your speeds the further your home is from the exchange. With Fibrus’s pure-fibre network, that’s not an issue.
Unlike most broadband providers who rely on BT’s Openreach network, Fibrus has built its own infrastructure from scratch. As of 2024, the company serves over 80,000 customers across 127 towns and villages in Northern Ireland and northern England, according to NI Chamber. They also hold a 4-star rating on Trustpilot.
Where is Fibrus broadband available?
Fibrus coverage is concentrated in Northern Ireland covering many rural areas and North West of England, particularly in Cumbria.

Fibrus coverage in Northern Ireland
Fibrus covers all six counties of Northern Ireland, serving both urban and rural communities. A big part of its NI rollout has been supported by Project Stratum, a government-funded programme designed to extend broadband to underserved areas.
The results speak for themselves. According to Ofcom’s Connected Nations report, 93% of Northern Ireland homes can now access full-fibre broadband, one of the highest rates in the UK. Average download speeds sit at around 115 Mbps, and 94% of premises have superfast (30 Mbps+) coverage (Ofcom Nations Reports, 2022).

Fibrus coverage in northern England
Fibrus has expanded into Cumbria and surrounding areas through the UK government’s Project Gigabit scheme, which funds gigabit broadband rollout in harder-to-reach locations. The company has stated ambitions to reach approximately 1 million premises in the coming years.
Again, coverage isn’t guaranteed at every address. Check if Fibrus is available at your postcode to confirm before going any further.
Fibrus broadband packages

Every Fibrus package includes unlimited data, symmetric speeds (your upload speed matches your download), free installation with an engineer visit, no setup fees, and an Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6 router as standard. Contracts are available on 12-month or 24-month terms, with the longer option typically coming in a few pounds cheaper each month.

Fibrus broadband speeds
Fibrus packages range from approximately 96 Mbps at entry level up to around 1,950 Mbps (1.95 Gbps) at the top end. That’s a wide spread, and honestly, most households won’t need the fastest tier.
For a home with 3 or 4 people streaming, browsing, and on video calls at the same time, 96 Mbps is comfortably enough. The gigabit-plus plans are really for power users or larger households with seriously heavy usage.
The symmetric speeds deserve a mention. With Fibrus, your upload speed matches your download speed, which is genuinely useful if you work from home, video call regularly, or upload large files. Fibrus router: Amazon eero Wi-Fi 6
Every Fibrus package includes the Amazon eero 6 router. No need to buy your own. Wi-Fi 6 technology handles multiple connected devices better than older standards, so it’s a decent inclusion for busy households.
If your home is larger and Wi-Fi doesn’t reach every room, Fibrus can supply additional eero units, though this may come at extra cost. If you cancel your contract, the router needs to be returned.
Fibrus broadband prices and contracts

Now for the bit that really matters: Fibrus guarantees no mid-contract price increases. That’s a genuine differentiator. Most major providers, including BT, Sky, and Virgin Media, have historically raised prices annually during the contract term. For context, Virgin Media’s broadband-only deals start from £21.99/month but rise to £25.99 after the first year and £29.99 after the second. BT charges a £34 setup fee and applies annual increases too. With Fibrus, the price you sign up for is the price you pay, for the full length of your contract.

What Fibrus doesn’t include

Traditional phone lines aren’t compatible with Fibrus’s FTTP network either. However, Fibrus offers a Voice over IP (VoIP) service for an additional monthly fee, and you can port your existing number across free of charge.
How does Fibrus compare to other providers?
For households in Northern Ireland or Cumbria that want full-fibre broadband without mid-contract price rises, Fibrus is one of the more competitive options available. Its pricing sits broadly in line with other alt-net full-fibre providers like Hyperoptic broadband and Zen Internet broadband, though those providers operate in different geographic areas.
For NI residents specifically, Fibrus is often one of the only dedicated full-fibre FTTP options. BT and Virgin Media do operate there, but their networks don’t always reach the rural and regional areas where Fibrus specialises. TalkTalk’s full-fibre plans start from £24/month, which looks competitive on paper, but they do apply mid-contract price rises (something Fibrus doesn’t do, and in our view that’s a significant advantage over 24 months).
Other smaller providers worth comparing include Airband broadband, Gigaclear, and Community Fibre, depending on your location.
Switching to Fibrus broadband
The process is fairly straightforward:

Is Fibrus broadband any good? Customer service and reliability
Fibrus holds a 4-star Trustpilot rating, and customer feedback generally points to responsive UK-based support and smooth installations. As a smaller, regional provider, Fibrus tends to offer a more personalised experience than the big national brands. That counts for a lot when something goes wrong.
Keep in mind that Fibrus has grown quickly, from around 50,000 customers in mid-2023 to over 80,000 by 2024. Rapid growth can sometimes strain service quality, so check recent reviews for your specific area before committing. The underlying FTTP technology itself is inherently more reliable than older copper or FTTC connections, which is reassuring.
Fibrus isn’t currently required to participate in Ofcom’s automatic compensation scheme, though this may change as the company grows. Check Fibrus’s own site for the latest on this before signing up.
